At the same time he was struggling with drugs leading him to get fired and placed in a treatment facility. While at the treatment facility he rekindled his love and passion for art and ended up doing it full time when he became sober. What makes this art inspiring to me is the feeling of hope, companionship, and loneliness. What makes me feel hope sort of ties in with the companionship in the sense that even though you or the child in the painting are alone in a decaying world you can still survive. For companionship i feel like the animals represent protection and safety, because of the way the child wonders about freely and not cautiously like they would do if they were alone. This relationship feels almost like a parent and child relationship with the animal being the parent and the child being the child. Finally I get the feeling of loneliness from the way everything and abandoned and broken like everyone left. Usually the child is the only human in the picture. What drew me in about the pictures were the imaginable relationships between the children and the animals, especially the predators.
