Project #1
The warm-up that was the most helpful during this unit was the Sign Language one. It taught me how to draw hands better by imagining my hand as different shapes.
Composition: is the placement or arrangement of visual elements or ingredients in a work of art, as distinct from the subject of a work. It can also be thought of as the organization of the elements of art according to the principles of art. For example it can be the spacing between a pencil and a pen in a drawing or the use of warm colors on one side and cool on the other.
Value: Element of design that defines the light and darks in an artwork. For example you would use shading to create a shadow on a tree to create a more realistic piece or use light or dark to emphasize something in the piece.
Pen-
Pros: lots of techniques for shading, looks very bold and detailed
Cons: Can't erase mistakes easily, easy to mess up
Charcoal-
Pros: Easy to erase mistakes,
Cons: Hard to make very small detailed pieces, very messy,
Pencil-
Pros: can quickly erase mistakes, very detailed,
Cons: can leave a mark in the paper if you draw to hard,

Painting Warm UPs:
1. What I learned from this activity was how to tint, shade and tone. I also learned about the color wheel and how to make different colors. I also learned basic painting techniques like textures and trees. 2. The technique I feel will be the most useful to me for my project is trees and texture. The reasoning for this is my place is in a woods with some close up of trees. 3. The one I learned the most from was color mixing and adding lights and dark to create the proper color. It was successful because I mixed the colors to get the right color to match the picture. 4. Mixing brown with different lights, darks, and other secondary colors. 5. To tone down a color you need to add grey and mix it into your painting. |
Sculpture vessel project
In Progress-
- What I plan to do with my piece is make it look more like kirby by adding pink and other colors. I think I will finish it by glazing it with pink, black and blue. Then I will also add details to the piece.
- The things i found most difficult were making the arms symmetrical and getting the mouth to be the right size and position on kirby's face. They were difficult because it was hard to make it look exactly the same to the other and kirby's smile is very small so it was hard to position.
- The thing that was most successful is that kirby is round enough to look like kirby and he can stand on his legs.
- I used a pinch pot technique to make the overall shape of kirby. Then I scratched and slipped the facial features on his face. Then I put his arms on using two balls of clay. Then I cut his head to make a lid and digged out the head to make it hollow so I could be stuff in their and so it won't explode.

PORTRAIT WARM-UPs
- What warm up is proving to be the most helpful so far in your portrait piece? Explain. (2 sentence min) (10pts) The warm up was all the body part ones like the ear, nose and eye. These were very useful for me because they made me learn how to draw those parts more realistically.
- The thing that was most surprising about body proportions to me was how complex they are. For example, the nose has a lot of different details and shading.
